Award-winning hairdresser and salon group and academy owner Andrew Collinge was recently invited to a private audience with the Prime Minister, David Cameron.
On a recent tour of Merseyside the Prime Minister was invited to answer questions and concerns from local businesses. These included such topics as bedroom tax, strikes, fracking and apprenticeship reforms. A strong figurehead in the Merseyside community, Andrew was invited by the newly appointed Cabinet Minister Esther McVey for to share a private audience with the PM.
Andrew Collinge is in the unique position to understand how the Richard Review of apprenticeships will impact on both sides, as he himself is the owner of hairdressing salons and training academies. One of the key Government recommendations in the review is to ‘place control of apprenticeships more firmly in the hands of the employer.’
Andrew does not believe the industry will benefit from this review and is concerned it will be detrimental to small businesses, academies and the apprentices. According to Andrew, when he confronted the PM with his apprehensions, Mr Cameron agreed, stating ‘We haven’t got this right.’
