Andis barber scholarship winners announced

Andis launched the Andis Nation UK Barber Scholarship programme at Barber Connect on Sunday 1 June. The two winners have been announced as Martin Kuspal from Leicester and Charlotte Clark from Hampshire.

The two winning applicants will each receive free training from Mike Taylor Education to accelerate their career progression taking them from an unqualified barber to NVQ Level 3.

Bruce Bock, Andis corporate communications says of the new scholarship: “At Andis, we believe proper education is the key to success,” said Bruce Bock, Sr. manager of communications for Andis. “We are proud to support aspiring barbers like Martin and Charlotte who share our passion for men's grooming and learning. We're excited to help them take their skills to the next level!”

As someone volunteering her time to give free haircuts to disabled adults and working in a salon as she embarks on life as a new mum, Charlotte expressed determination to qualify and one day own her own salon. After saving for three years to pay for training she is naturally excited about her success. "I’m so overwhelmed and can’t wait. Barbering is where my heart is at and I’m determined to get to the top. This is an incredible opportunity for me and I’ll give it 100%!"
With a similar approach to helping others, moving to the UK are tough times and dedicating his time and energy to his barbering career, Martin also stood out to the judges. "When I found barbering, I found myself," he says. "It was the only thing that made sense and it has transformed my life. Now, this amazing opportunity will help me reach a new level so I can excel in the salon and continue to help homeless people feel and look better."

Andis and Mike Taylor have designed the Andis Nation Scholarship training programme to fast-track individuals to NVQ Level 3. Each unit has theory and practical elements that both need to be completed to achieve the qualification. Theory assignments will be sent via email and are required to be completed remotely prior to the in-person training and assessments. Each winner also receives an assortment of Andis professional tools and a Mike Taylor Education Barbering Resource Book to assist with assignments.

Master barber Mike Taylor says: “I think we’ve uncovered two rising stars and I’m so proud to be a key part of their journey to qualification and success."

The training curriculum the two winners receive is five days of in-person training and assessment on:

    1. Haircutting

    2. Beard Trimming

    3. Shaving

    4. Consultation

    5. Pattern work

    6. Reception

    7. Photo shoot
