All in a week's work

I have just returned from the Maldives, where I spent Christmas and New Year. I normally work a seven-day week throughout the year - I pile in the hours non-stop - but I am also religious about taking holiday. It is very important: good for the soul and good for the head. It helps with the business too because I can plan ahead and spend time thinking about how to move forward, what to do next. I always work at least six months ahead, but am already on ideas for 2012 thanks to the Maldives!

And so my first day back at work was Tuesday - and a busy day it was. I am working on a new TV show, the new Vanessa Feltz show on Channel Five, and I was filming that all day. I am the hair expert on the show but will also be appearing as a guest, reviewing and chatting about life, society and what is happening in the world. It is great fun - I love doing TV work but it can be daunting too. On Tuesday I was still quite jetlagged plus I had lost the hearing in one of my ears on the flight (it has popped now though), so it was a daunting day. After wearing flip flops and not much else for two weeks it takes a bit of getting used to being back at work. But I think it's normal to find that sort of thing daunting - I always think if you don't have the butterflies then you can't care about what you're doing that much.

On Wednesday I was in deepest darkest East London doing a photoshoot for Specsavers. I am doing a campaign with them, but I also work with them throughout the year. As well as photoshoots I also give their clients advice on hairstyles that work with spectacles, via their newsletter. It is really interesting how diverse a hairdresser's job can be!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday I am in my Covent Garden Salon seeing clients, and on Sunday I am flying off to Vegas for the Redken symposium. And between all that, I've been trying to stick to my New Year's resolution and detox - but the salon is still full of goodies from clients over Christmas so I am finding it tough!
