UK hairdressing is the best in the world, but it's not just about the top names and celebrity stylists. We find out more about one of hairdressing's rising stars to find out who inspires them.
Name: Mai Ha
Age: 29
Job title: Director
Place of work: Trevor Sorbie, Manchester
Training and qualifications: NVQ Level 2, top stylist at Toni&Guy, Saks franchisee, member of Trevor Sorbie artistic team
Best advice ever given: If you don't embrace your fears, you never move forward or progress.
Career highlight: When I passed my artistic team test in March 2011. I got some brilliant feedback from Trevor and amazing compliments on my work.
Favourite celebrity hairstyle: It has to be Jessie J. I absolutely adore her bob because it's such a sleek, classic shape that never goes out of fashion.
Best part of the job: I'm always learning. I'm lucky to work with a talented team in an amazing city that constantly inspires me. You can never know too much - if you think you know it all then you shouldn't be doing the job.
In the next five years I want to... Start assisting the artistic team on shows and shoots to gain as much knowledge and experience as I can. Eventually, I would love to enter HJ's British Hairdressing Awards.
My hairdressing hero is: I love Vidal Sassoon and Trevor Sorbie because they helped the hairdressing industry evolve in to what it is today. I also find Angelo Seminara and Errol Douglas's session work inspirational.
Worst part of the job: Quiet days. I hate being bored because I get demotivated.
If I wasn't a hairdresser I would be: A clothes stylist or make-up artist.
