Following the announcement of the death of Alexander McQueen, tributes have flooded in from hairdressers who looked to him for inspiration. Angelo Seminara worked with him on his shows. "I worked for Alexander McQueen for five seasons assisting Eugene Souleiman. He was very focused and incredibly creative. He was without doubt a genius and unique, there is no one else like him. They were the most stressful shows to work on as he was a perfectionist, dedicated and passionate but it was also a very special time as it was like working with an artist."
My Facebook page has been inundated with comments from hairdressers who have expressed their sadness. Thomas McMillan said, "God Bless and RIP," while Kay Lobetta added, "he will be missed very much, he has always inspired us!" and Alan Austin-Smith commented, "Always been an inspiration to me - such talent from such an early age - always on the edge - radical inspiring controversy. I just love people who lead rather than follow in others footsteps - how sad."
Nelson Brown adds: "Alexander showed conviction with fashion, a boundary pusher, an icon, a legend. His designs empathise with fashion focus, leading and marking turf what ever he touched. These clever people come along once in a lifetime. He showed guts with determination, a British hero in the world of fashion. His collections dictate trends as a normal everyday thing, his loss, his talent, his devotion to the world will always be remembered, A legend has been created."
Vivienne Mackinder looked to him for inspiration. "How heart breaking another genius has been lost - so tragic and far to young to leave us. While the world may be living a more austere lifestyle, Alexander's creativity defies the norm and encouraged me as an artist to dream and think big. He was one of my creative heroes. Only yesterday I was deep in fashion research, once again enjoying Alexander McQueen's collections, he was a genius. This image from my Regal Opulence collection featuring Alexander's clothes will be an even greater treasure to me. A sober reminder to celebrate the moment, enjoy our love ones, life indeed is too short."
