Abhorrent business practice

Poaching is an emotive subject and one that on the whole, individuals claim to despise; so why then does it continue to occur? From copying details on in-salon consultation records to offering clients your mobile number directly - all is underhand and inappropriate behaviour that there is no excuse for. Loyalty is hugely important in any relationship and behaviour such as this destroys any trust between employer and employee that cannot be restored.

Equally, coercing a busy stylist, creative colour technician or proactive receptionist from another salon also falls into the poaching bracket and is a practice that is frankly abhorrent. Salon owners invest time, money and effort into developing team members and build a business around those individuals, and the affect of them moving to a competitive local business can be catastrophic.

There is no doubt that individuals look for fresh challenges and different environments when it comes to work; and salon owners need to recruit as the requirements of the business changes - but there are appropriate and above all, professional ways of doing this.

Hairdressing is a creative industry and in order to attract the right individuals, your recruitment message needs to be cohesive with your brand strategy and clearly outline the role and responsibilities. Equally, if you are looking for a new challenge, be clear about what it is you really want.
