A salon space should reflect the style of its occupants and their work, and nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the recently reopened Sassoon Academy. The London education outpost is an homage to Sassoon style, perfectly reflecting the core philosophy of the company with minimalist design, clean lines and contemporary styling.
Located in the heart of Mayfair, the 4,500sq ft academy has taken over a space which formerly housed the Sassoon men's salon at the front as well as the school at the rear. Expanding its educational offering, the walls were knocked through to create one spacious venue with the aim of providing the best training facilities possible for its students.
Extending out from around a central glass-walled atrium, an open-plan staircase links all of the floors in the light-filled, bright white space. As well as four classrooms housing a total of 60 students, the building now boasts a spacious reception area and store selling education essentials, a student lounge and a state-of-the-art theatre.
White dominates throughout - chosen specifically to act as a neutral backdrop to the vibrancy of the occupants and their work. Combining comfort and efficiency, as well as creating a welcoming and professional space, the minimalist concept was designed by long-term Sassoon collaborator Jonathan Lovett at the Association of Ideas with virtually all fixtures and fittings custom-made.
