A season of magazines and hair makeovers - andrew barton

barton-andrew-150.gifIt's been a while since I have last been in touch. I've just had a crazy busy few weeks doing loads of photographic shoots for magazines.

I've been doing everything from makeovers to new year, new you features and fashion spreads for everything for Phsychology magazine to the Mail on Sunday magazine to Weight Watchers.

That suits me perfectly because I love the diversity and think I would get bored doing the same thing all the time. Certain session hairdressers have an element of snobbery and only want to work in high fashion. That is fine if that is how they want to express their creativity, but I think creativity is much more than that.

I am very lucky to do some of everything as it keeps me excited, and one of those things that I really enjoy is my work on makeover show 10 Years Younger.

We're currently working on the new series which will have a bit of a twist from the usual format: this year we will be working on two ladies - one who will have surgery and the other who won't.

It is really exciting for the industry, as it can show quite what a difference hairdressers can make, but it means that the workload has doubled and the pressure is really on to get the hair just right.

Once again I will be working with the lovely Lisa Shepherd, who will be colouring the ladies' hair, but we have a new presenter Myleene Klass.

It's been really nice working with Lisa and during the last series we formed a great relationship. I think her colouring has great taste backed up with fantastic skill and she is not scared to experiment.

Lisa has a similar ethos to me - really beautiful hair that makes the best of what a girl has - and I am sure we will do some fantastic transformations in the new 10 Years Younger series.

In December, I'll also be doing some extra days in the salon. I am still fully booked for the next four to five months so it just shows that women are still investing in grooming, even in these difficult times.

In the coming months, I think that women might cut back on the services that they have and tries to get longer out of a cut, but I don't think great hair is something that they will sacrifice.
