A new york state of mind at medusa hairdressing in edinburgh

New York cool comes to Edinburgh at the fourth Medusa Hairdressing salon on buzzing South Clerk Street.
Husband and wife team Colin and Claire McAndrew had already established a corporate look with similar interiors throughout their chain, but the latest addition truly encapsulates Big Apple glamour.
"We were inspired by the space itself," says Colin. "But we'd also looked at the design of other salons, hotels and clubs. We wanted to create a New York loft-style space with an industrial-but-glamorous atmosphere. All four salons are similar, but I would say this one has a more expensive, luxurious feel."
Exposed concrete throughout is painted with a cool matte black on the ceiling with off-white on the walls, while the floor is covered with black oil-slick effect tiles, with a cool metallic shimmer which exudes a different look from every angle. Three columns are covered with glittery mirror tiles to add a touch of sparkle, which is further enhanced by the studio-style lighting.
"The building was previously a salon, so we needed to create impact ensuring passing trade stopped and took notice," Colin says. "But it also had to reflect the Medusa brand and work within our budget. I'm glad we opened a fourth salon - I just wish we had done it sooner."
