A celebration of pop art at bonce hair salon

Published 13th Aug 2009 by sophieh

The trend for simple, white salons might be a practical and cost-effective option, but when it comes to creating the salon of your dreams isn't it better to chase the dream and be a little flamboyant with your ideas?

This is exactly what sales and marketing expert Carl Mitchell, his hairdresser wife Donna, and artistic director Poonam Mehmi have done with Bonce Hair Salon.

There is absolutely nothing minimalist or boring about Bonce Hair Salon in Walsall, West Midlands. It's a Mecca of pop art, retro furniture and candy-style graphics - bringing a breath of fresh air to the surrounding area.

"We wanted a lively, trendy salon with a retro feel in order to offer something different to the usual minimalist look," says Carl.

Top Tips

  • If you're working with a project manager - know what you're getting with the budget from day one, right down to the screws and costs. You could be thinking you're getting something you're not.

  • Always have a mix of what will look good in the salon and what is most practical. Sometimes, being too practical will not give you the look you desire and could take the 'wow' out of it.

  • As much as people say stick to your budget, you won't. Make sure you do have that all-important contingency fund.

  • When you are working with a designer/project manager, don't be afraid to tell them that things are too expensive, it's your money.
