To launch its new campaign, Hairstories, OGX polled 2,000 women in the UK to ask them what makes them feel confident, with hair featuring highly in the top ten. When asked about confidence, the research revealed that the average woman feels confident three times a week, with 46% agreeing this has increased with age, due to feeling more comfortable in their own skin (69%) and having more life experience (67%). Keep reading to check out how a woman's hair can impact her confidence.

Common confidence boosters, according to the poll...

1. Making someone laugh (46%)
2. Getting praised at work (43%)
3. Freshly washed and styled hair (40%)
4. Having a good hair day (40%)
5. Ticking off all your work to-do-list (40%)
6. Having freshly cut or dyed hair (39%)
7. A compliment from another woman on your hair (36%)
8. A successful new hairstyle or colour (34%)
9. Finding a bargain when food shopping (32%)
10. Finishing a workout (23%)
11. Finding a parking space on a busy street (16%)
12. Having a successful client call (14%)
13. Winning an argument (13%)
14. Reaching a new PB at the gym (11%)

It’s clear that as a nation we love to experiment, with 19% trying new looks in their teens, 34% in their 20s, 13% in their 30s and 6% in their 40s. A whopping 67% said trying new hairstyles was a huge part of finding their identity. Meanwhile, 56% of those surveyed have changed their hairstyle up to eight times in the last decade, and 51% have experimented with up to six different colours. Whether it's a short bob, a fresh colour or something much more drastic altogether, nearly 39% said these changes helped to shape who they are, and improve their self-confidence with age.

Shining a light on the importance of a good hair day, the research revealed that one in five women (20%) have been reduced to tears as a result of a bad hair day, 9% covered a bad style with a hat or headscarf, and 6% even canceled plans as they couldn't bear the thought of friends and family seeing them.

When asked what caused us to change up our hair style, 26% of women said they’d try a new look for a holiday, 20% for a wedding and interestingly, 17% of women have done this after breaking up with their partner or going through a divorce.

If you have a client looking to try a new look in 2024, why not suggest the Kitty Cut?
