5 things to know about sustainable packaging During the Aveda Global Sustainable Packaging Virtual Panel event on 29 March, the brand announced a series of sustainable projects. Hosted by Aveda’s Global Advocate of Sustainability Arizona Muse, the panel featured Victor Bell, environmental packaging international, Edmond Irizarry, Aveda director of packaging and Kalley Curtis, Aveda packaging manger. The panel gave viewers a better grasp on recyclable packaging including what to look for from brands and a glimpse into the future of packaging.

5 things we learned from the Aveda Sustainable Packaging panel

  • The brand announced that they were closing the loop on packaging that isn't currently recyclable.
  • Aveda will offer refillable pouches in UK and mainland Europe.
  • Mango peel could be used in the future in bottles and packaging!
  • They are devoted to fostering a circular plastic economy.
  • The Full Circle Take Back scheme will come into fruition in the UK and Europe this year. It will allow consumers to take back their packaging to participating salons.
Interestingly the brand won't be moving to a plastic-free packaging as there are pros and cons of materials like glass which a lot of consumers consider to be more environmentally friendly than plastic. (Glass is heavier so uses more energy to transport, for example). We await dates for these projects to take place!
