We caught up with colourist to the stars, Tracey Cunningham, at Redken Symposium. Here's what she had to say...
On Redken education...
I really think it's the best. They listen to the hairdresser, they listen to me and take on board my feedback. They take it very seriously, but they're also teaching real colour and real techniques than salons can take back and use.
On Instagram...
I started using
Instagram to share colour formulas because most of my followers are hairdressers and I wanted to share with them. We even found a new member of the team through Instagram -
Chris Greene. He was colouring clients from his home in Newfoundland and kept commenting on our pictures and tagging us in his work. He was just taking pictures of his colour against a plain white wall in his apartment. When we looked at what he was doing we were so impressed we invited him in to do some models and now he's working in the salon!
On colour...
I fell in love with colour in high school. A girl from Norway joined my class and when I saw her hair, I knew it had to be just a bit darker or a bit lighter. You know when you see someone and you think they just need that little something?! We went to the store and bought a box dye and she just looked amazing. And literally a week later, she got a date with the sexiest jock in school!
On products...
My favourite Redken product is Satinwear. I use it with every blow-dry and am constantly asking people in the salon if they've used it on their clients. After Shades EQ, it's all about Satinwear.
On other hairdressers...
There are so many great hairdressers out there and we're all friends. Some of the names I recommend you follow are
Kari Hill,
Justin Anderson,
Nicola Clarke,
Sally Northwood and
Marie Robinson.
