Trevor Sorbie creative colour director
John Stanton reveals how he comes up with ideas and allows his creative process to flourish in the run up to the Trevor Sorbie Salon Live show...
Q: What is your creative process?
A: My usual ‘creative process’ is procrastination and panic. Not getting it right brings out my stubbornness, so failures act to motivate me to get it right the next time, or the next, or the next!
Q: Which book has influenced your life and work?
A: ‘Tales of the City’ is a series of books by Armistead Maupin. These books changed my self-perception, made me more tolerant and better at being OK with who I am.
Q: What are the biggest challenges you face when creating a show like Trevor Sorbie Salon Live?
A: It's definitely the challenge of being able to present something on stage in a short space of time, without talking too much!
Q: What changes have you made in the past 12 months and how has that improved your work?
A: Possibly just looking outside of hair for new ways of doing what I do. Not just inspiration but the physical tools to do the job as well.
Q: What would you like to leave the Salon Live audience with?
A: Ideas because having the opportunity to influence how an audience sees what they do differently is an absolute privilege.
