Business Director of the Year at HJ's 2010 British Hairdressing Business Awards, Mark Woolley has four Electric Hairdressing salons in London, Brighton, Reading and Oxford.
As well as his business prowess, Mark is also
the global brand ambassador for Denman International, a member of L'Oreal Portfolio of Artistic Hairdressers, and is active within the Fellowship for British Hairdressing.
1. What is your biggest achievement?
Starting the Electric brand
2. If you weren't a hairdresser what would you be?
A musician
3. How would your clients describe you?
A friendly Northerner
4. Which one style do you wish you had created?
The Sassoon five point haircut
5. Who is your style icon?
It changes all the time, but at the moment, I like model Freja Beha Erichsen.
6. Who is your hairdressing idol?
There are lots of people for lots of different reasons, but I think Anthony Mascolo is a good example
7. Which hairdresser would you most like to work with (past or present)?
Vidal Sassoon
8. Who cuts your hair?
Alan Short, the manager of Electric Reading.
9. Favourite part of the job?
The people I meet and work with and the creativity aspect.
10. Who is your most famous client past or present?
Sienna Miller
11. Last time you were lost for words?
This year's Electric Sessions in Brighton when 100 people jumped in the sea, all in the name of Electric.
12. Which one product couldn't you live without?
Electric Smoothing Cream
13. Is there anything about the industry that makes you mad?
I can't think of anything at the moment, so probably not.
14. What's the biggest gaffe you've made in your career?
Asking a client when her baby was due when she wasn't pregnant...
15. What's the best career advice you've ever been given?
Just f***ing do it!
16. Last time you were star-struck?
Meeting R2D2 and Chewbacca from Star Wars!
17. Time you were most proud to be in hairdressing?
After watching Vidal Sassoon: The Movie.
18. What celebrity haircut do you wish had never caught on?
The Victoria Beckham graduated bob.
19. What haircut would you love to make a come-back and how would you re-invent it for the noughties?
The early 90s Shakespears Sister-inspired short fringe and cheek-length box bob.
20. Sleek and shiny or messy bed hair?
It depends on my mood, but I think I'd sway towards messy.
