Career History: After receiving her hairdressing training in her native Tasmania, Carolyn traveled to the UK in 1989, shortly thereafter joining the Charles Worthington Company as a stylist. Having gained experience working in a wide range of roles, from salon manager to training manager to art team manager, she will be the first to admit that colour is her real passion. Carolyn currently holds the position of colour & art team director for the Charles Worthington as well as educating colour techniques around he world for Charles Worthington and L'Oreal.

What is your biggestachievement?

Having a very busy educationcalendar and being able to take my Artistic team on International trips withme.

If you weren't a hairdresserwhat would you be?

I always wanted to be ajournalist or a TV presenter

How would your clientsdescribe you?

Honest with what I canachieve on their hair and fun to be with.

Which one style do you wishyou had created?

I wish I had createdpermanent hair colour as I really love the science part of developing somethingnew, and working with technology.

Who is your style icon?

Madonna - I have grown upwith her and always loved her looks

I am lucky to work with him- Charles Worthington

Who cuts your hair?

Andrew John cuts &colours my hair, he is our Artistic Development manager

Favourite part of the job?

Working with my team, bothin the office and in our salons

Who is your most famousclient past or present?

Paloma Picasso and JamieOliver

Last time you were lost forwords?

When I got home from a 12flight from Korea, it was 2 degrees and I was told our boiler had broken andwould take ages to fix and replace. I couldn't say anything, as I was cold andtired, so went straight to bed!

Which one product couldn'tyou live without?

L'Oreal ProfessionalMajimeche - quick to achieve from natural sun kissed lights to dramatic lightpieces without ammonia, and it really respects the hair.

Is there anything about theindustry that makes you mad?

When we are portrayed badlyin print and on screen and hairdressing is seen just as a job. I have worked inthe industry for 27 years, I have an amazing career which I love and arepassionate about and this has taken me all over the world and I have met somany incredible people.

What's the biggest gaffeyou've made in your career?

It was on my hair, I thoughtI could very quickly (between clients) go from red to blonde, and the endresult was that my hair looked like a flame, red roots, orange mid-lengths andwhite tips!! Not a look I would recommend. 



What's the best careeradvice you've ever been given?

There is no such thing as aboring client, but there can be a boring hairdresser.

Last time you werestar-struck?

The only time I have everbeen star-struck was when I met George Michael backstage at a charity fashionshow. He was my idol in Wham and I thought I would never meet him ever in reallife and chat to him for 15 minutes!!

Time you were most proud tobe in hairdressing?

I am always proud when I seeone of our young hairdressers graduate onto the floor as a stylist, it is sofulfilling to see them working alongside you after all the hard work they havedone to get there.

What celebrity haircut doyou wish had never caught on?

The dark block colourunderneath and the very blonde block colour on top, it seems so 80's now.

What haircut would you loveto make a come-back and how would you re-invent it fo r the noughties?

I would like to see more different colours in hair, from black, red and gold all on the one head, butmuch more softer and blended together, that it was before.
