The future of barbering is only as strong as the next generation of hair pros coming through the ranks and encouraging and nurturing this talent is something Modern Barber Magazine and Salon International take very seriously. This is why Modern Barber are once again teaming up with Mike Taylor Education to bring you the Raw Talent Barbering Competition 2024.

Open for entries, the Raw Talent Barbering Competition gives a platform to barbering students and apprentices, offering them the chance to show the industry what they can do, while presenting them with a career springboard like no other.

The first round of the competition is judged based on photographic entries, but finalists will get to compete live at Salon International 2024 at ExCeL London. It’s a great atmosphere in which to show the barbering world just what you are made of — everyone there is behind you and wanting you to succeed!

Who can enter?

Entrants must be currently undertaking a formally accredited Level 2 qualification in hairdressing or barbering, currently registered on the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standards or recently qualified within the previous 3 years. There are three categories you can enter:

Student
Ideal for current students who are registered on an approved Level 2 qualification. Entrants must not have any commercial shop floor experience.

Graduate
Ideal for current Level 3 students who are registered on an approved Level 3 qualification and apprentices registered on the Hair Professional Standards with less than 12 months commercial shop floor experience.

Postgraduate
Ideal for those who have recently achieved an approved qualification with an achievement date within the last 3 years and no more than 3 years commercial shop floor experience.

How do you enter?

Each entry must submit THREE images, one before and up to two of the finished hairstyle (front on and side headshots only). Note: If you have submitted images of more than one look in your entry, your submission will not be accepted.

For round 1, photographs of work created on either headblocks or live clients will be accepted.*

Simply fill in the form button below and choose the category you fit into best, as listed above. Entry to the competition is free and, if chosen to be a finalist, you will receive a one day entrance ticket to Salon International to participate in the live competition.

*It is acceptable for round 1 to submit a photo of your work on a head-block / mannequin. However, if accepted as a finalist, you must re-create the hairstyle live on a model (a head-block / mannequin will not be accepted).

The entries deadline is on Friday 30th August at 5pm.
