Terms and Conditions

COMPETITION:

The Raw Talent Barbering Competition is brought to you by Modern Barber Magazine with the aim to provide a platform for students and junior barbers to showcase their skills.

WHO CAN ENTER:

Entrants must be currently undertaking a formally accredited Level 2 qualification in hairdressing or barbering, currently registered on the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standards or recently qualified within the previous three years.

CATEGORIES:

  • Student - ideal for current students who are registered on an approved Level 2 qualification. Entrants must not have any commercial shop floor experience.
  • Graduate - ideal for current Level 3 students who are registered on an approved Level 3 qualification and apprentices registered on the Hair Professional Standards with less than 12 months commercial shop floor experience. 
  • Postgraduate - ideal for those who have recently achieved an approved qualification with an achievement date within the last 3 years and no more than 3 years commercial shop floor experience.

HOW TO ENTER:

Round 1: Entries will be judged on photographs uploaded to the Salon International website. For further details on specific requirements, please see the Photographic Requirements section.

Round 2*: The chosen finalists will be invited to recreate their look live in the competition area at Salon International.

*Criteria: It is acceptable for round 1 to submit a photo of your work on a head-block / mannequin. However, if accepted as a finalist, you must re-create the hairstyle live on a model (a head-block / mannequin will not be accepted).

TIMETABLE & ENTRY DEADLINES:

The closing date for entries to this competition is Friday 30 August at 5pm. Under no circumstances will entries be allowed after this time. Finalists will be notified end of September and announced on Modern Barber Magazine Instagram (@modernbarbermag). Finalists will be required to attend Salon International for their final on either 13 or 14 October at ExCeL London.

PHOTOGRAPHIC REQUIREMENTS:

Each photographic submission must comprise of at least THREE head shot photographs. These must show a before image and two after images, front on and side head shots. All entries must be the original and the unassisted work of the applicant.

JUDGING:

The competition will be judged by top industry professionals, there will be a minimum of four judges to make sure all the entries are judged fairly. Entries will be judged solely on the following, as evidenced by their photographic submission:

· Accuracy

· Style

· Skills

It should be noted that all photographic materials submitted by entrants should be of sufficient quality to enable proper judging (high quality photos taken on mobile phones can be submitted). Any entry that is of poor photographic quality, and therefore insufficient to be accurately judged will be discarded by the judges.

FINALS:

The finals will take place at Salon International on 13-14 October where the finalists will be required to recreate their look live on a model (a head-block/mannequin will not be accepted). If chosen to be a finalist you will be given a one day entrance ticket to Salon International, on the day of your category's finals (13 or 14 October).

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS:

Every entrant to the competition avows that by participating in this competition they positively confirm that they consent to the free and absolute use by Modern Barber Magazine, Salon International and Professional Beauty Group of any photographic, digital or other imagery submitted by them or on their behalf for entry purposes and any subsequent material which is created for or as a result of this competition including use of film, photography or written words including quotes whether in press releases, website materials, promotional purposes of otherwise. However, Modern Barber Magazine and Salon International will not cause or permit the publication of any personal information relating to any entrant other than the name, age, place of study, place of work and social media handles.
