Toni & Guy MainStage returned to Salon International 2018 and this year's event was a tribute to the late, great Toni Mascolo featuring the Legacy collection.
The evening began with an emotional tribute from the Mascolo and Mascolo-Tarbuck family. Pauline Mascolo, wife of Toni, talked about her late husband as the "most kind, caring and loving man." The family spoke of how the
Toni & Guy brand was all about family – not just about family in terms of blood relations, but the family connection of a salon and a brand. In a broader industry sense it was stressed that Toni Mascolo revolutionised the world of salon franchises.
Next, videos by sponsors L’Oréal Professionnel and Wella Professional led into the awards section of the evening. The winners were as follows...
Label m Retail Salon of the Year - Rebecca Carr Hair Salon
Label m Distributor of the Year - Label m Italia SLR
Toni & Guy Hairdresser of the Year – Amparo Carratala from Spain
Toni & Guy Salon of the Year – Toni & Guy Canary Wharf
Then a special award was given by Pauline - the Toni & Guy Lifetime Achievement Award went to Jackie Lark
We were then treated to a performance by Not3s whilst a vibrant catwalk show went on behind. A rock n' roll Label m runway with shaggy bobs and peroxide blonde cuts rocked followed after which a collection of fashion-week inspired catwalks (including the designer Giles) brought the brand's heritage as London Fashion Week sponsor to the foreground.
The Legacy collection saw day glo' buzzcuts, layered blonde bobs and a tight 1970s inspired perm by British Hairdresser of the Year nominee Cos Sakkas. But the high point of the night was the moving final runway collection - a fitting tribute infused with Catholic symbolism and ornate and intricate avant garde hair looks.
The evening ended in a final catwalk of all the looks to the sound of 'We Are Family'. The heritage of Toni Mascolo lives on.
