The most popular hairstyles of 2022 so far have been revealed.
With restrictions easing, clients are feeling optimistic and looking to re-emerge with a new hairstyle, cut or colour – but which hairstyles are the most popular of 2022 so far?
New research by data analysts at Milk + Blush* reveals the top 10 hairstyles Brits have been searching for the most this year, and it’s good news for lovers of bangs…
1. Curtain bangs
Curtain bangs is far and ahead the most searched for style of 2022 so far, with 90,500 monthly searches on average. The classic style has recently been adopted by stars including Beyonce, Billie Eilish and Jennifer Lopez – its huge popularity in part because the look works on any length of hair. The style also suits most face shapes due to its versatility, especially those with oval, round and rectangular faces.2. Bottleneck bangs
In second is bottleneck bangs, which has been the subject of roughly 14,500 searches a month in the UK this year. A hybrid between full and grown out fringes, bottleneck bangs (pictures above) have been seen on stars such as Alexa Chung and Margot Robbie. Often described as a 'parred back' curtain bang, this style starts off narrower towards the centre of the forehead and gets wider and longer as it skims your cheekbones and flatters the face shape.3. Hair braids
Hair braids is in third, with 12,100 average monthly searches. Traditionally seen on afro-Caribbean hair, this trend can be worn all over or adapted as ‘baby braids’ – as seen on Hayley Beiber and Zoe Kravitz – which are versatile for all textures and lengths and styles.4. French bob
The French bob has become the hairstyle of the moment. Despite placing fourth overall, searches are up 179% year-on-year to 8,100 a month in 2022, so expect it to stick around for a while yet. Most suited to oval, long and heart-shaped faces, this haircut is typically shorter than your standard chin-length bob. The real differentiator is length and texture - and it’s always paired with a fringe.5. Ponytail extensions
Despite a lot of hype around shorter hairstyles this year, the sleek high ponytail is still here to stay. Ponytail extensions have been searched for 5,400 times a month on average. What better way to have the best of both worlds than investing in a clip-in ponytail? Like superstar Ariana Grande, you can add length and volume to your ponytail for a more dramatic and glamorous look. The next big styles to watch out for in 2022
Close behind ponytail extensions is another short cut, the curly bob, with 4,400 searches a month. And as we move into summer, two hairstyles are quickly gaining popularity when it comes to online searches: the bouncy blowout (up 425% year-on-year) and expensive blonde, a more natural-looking and low maintenance take on blonde colouring (up 600%).Most Popular Hairstyles of 2022 So Far*
