I received the following question by email:

Hi Sarah

We have just purchased an existing small hairdressers and are looking to grow the business - please could you recommend any customer incentives we could try?

Many thanks

Congrats on your purchase!  First things first, have a look at what booking system you have and what data you've acquired

make sure that every customer that comes through the door gives you their contact details, mobile and email are important ones. So in terms of attraction I'd be focussing on two things, firstly recommend a friend, utilise existing relationships and incentivise with things like, a free treatment, discount off first service, or added value is great, over the years I've found vouchers for 'treats' can be quite cost effective, treats, like family days out, or free nightclub entry ( obviously it depends on your audience! ) or hotel stay vouchers, these are all low cost high perceived value offers ( give me a call if you want to look at them, they could be a low cost option for you to offer something wow factor.) Also over the years I've used a campaign called, when good neighbours become good friends, which works quite well where for a limited time you offer 'locals' a 20% off their first service.. It's then up to you to provide a good service and 'keep' them when you have them.
