We all know that fashion week paves the way for the upcoming season's trends - of course, this is not just the case for the clothes, but the hair, too. To help give you an insight as to what the hottest SS23 styles might be, HJ was granted access to Puma's New York Fashion Week show, where they partnered with Aveda.
Aveda global artistic director for texture, Renée Gadar, and guest artist Jon Reyman, of Spoke & Weal salons, created dynamic modern hair styles for the Puma SS23 Futrograde runway show.
Featuring fashion, music and sports, the hair looks for the show spanned three different themes: Quiet Noise, Bodega and Futro.
Puma @ Fashion Week - Hair Look One
Quiet Noise, a disturbed, sleek but sophisticated look, opened the show. To achieve the Quiet Noise look, Jon parted out a section of hair for the fringe and stretched it by pressing it with a flat iron, making it as straight as possible. He then used phomollient styling foam, nutriplenish styling treatment foam and nutriplenish multi-use hair oil to give it a really sleek look and wrapped the rest up into a tight bun.
Puma @ Fashion Week - Hair Look Two
The next portion of the show, Bodega, incorporated braids, bantu knots and colourful accessories to give off a trendy street wear vibe.
“My favourite theme to work on during the show was the Bodega portion,” said Renée. “It’s hood and glam all at the same time with lots of hair accessories; it’s just really fun, creative and colourful.”
To achieve this look on Puma ambassador Abby Steiner, Renée first prepped the hair with volumizing tonic and brilliant retexturing gel to seal the hair down. She parted the hair straight down the centre, and in the front sectioned out two boxes to create flat box braids to the scalp. In the back she ran the part from the forehead all the way down the back. With the hair split down the back she then braided two, three strand braids at the nape.
Lastly, she added colourful flower clips and sealed it with control force firm hair spray.
Puma @ Fashion Week - Hair Look Three
The final Futro section had a sleek, wet feel with lots of braids to match the futuristic styles showcased on the runway.
