6 TikTok Trending Festival Hairstyles of 2023
With Glastonbury just one month away, hairstylists have predicted which trends we can expect to see gracing the fields this festival season. Stylist and Head of Education, Laura Elliot, at Haircare Professionals, Salon Promotions has delved into TikTok hashtag data to reveal six TikTok trending festival hairstyles that she expects to be big this summer. Plus, she shares some tips on how to get the look.
Laura says: “With over 51 billion views, #festivalhairstyles on TikTok is providing all the hair inspiration ahead of festival season this year. Y2K nostalgia is still very much a driver of the popular hairstyles we are seeing for festival looks this year with crimping, bubble braids, and butterfly clips all making a comeback.”
So without further ado, here are the six biggest TikTok trending festival hairstyles that we’ll see parading round the fields during 2023…
Hair Tinsel
“One of the biggest festival hair trends of the season is definitely hair tinsel which has over 289 million views on TikTok. An easy and temporary way to add these holographic and shimmery looking highlights for a day or so is to create a small slipknot to weave strands of hair through easily. For those clients wanting to show their tinsel off all season long, microbeads can be used for a more reliable semi-permanent solution.Bubble Braids
“A simple way to add interest to a ponytail and perfect for keeping client’s hair out of the way while they dance the night away is the noughties bubble braid. With over 241 million views on TikTok, the nostalgic style is likely to be a go-to choice for festival goers this year. For those with thinner hair, tease the hair slightly and use a texture spray to make it easier to pull out strands and create a look that will hold all day.Crimped Hair
"Crimped hair has over 147 million TikTok views and is a great choice for those seeking a low maintenance option that can last the whole weekend. Crimp client’s whole head of hair thoroughly, partitioning different sections at a time to not miss any strands, and fix with hairspray. This should help the styling last for at least a couple of days. Clients can also add dry shampoo which should add any lost volume to their locks to see them through.Baby Braids
"Now boasting around 58 million views on TikTok, baby braids are on the grow. If clients are wanting to let their hair down but don’t want to deal with windswept strands getting in their way, baby braids that frame the face are a hybrid option. When plaiting hair with shorter layers or bands, use a paste of sculpting lotion to blend all the strands and slick back any flyaways. Choosing the size of the braid will depend on the thickness of client’s hair – with thinner hair, opt for skinnier braids.Butterfly Clips
“When it comes to hair accessories, butterfly clips are having a huge moment with over 51 million views on the TikTok hashtag. Perfect for adding a pop of colour to client’s hair, butterfly clips pull the whole look aesthetic together, and can be used in a variety of ways. For practicality, you can use these clips to pin back shorter layers of hair that client’s want to keep off their face, or for a fun look, weave them into a fishtail plait or place over elastics holding baby braids in for an extra noughties touch.Space Buns
“With 25 million views on TikTok, space buns are another popular festival option and great for the last day if clients are wanting to hide away any scraggly ends that need conditioning. Simply part the hair down the middle and create two high ponytails on either side of the head. Tease the hair to create volume, and simply wrap around to create a bun and secure with a bobble. This style can be customised so whether your client is after messy loose buns or a slick back look, you can tailor to each client.”
