HJ spoke to Suzie McGill, artistic director at Rainbow Room International, about her hair trend predictions for A/W 22, including both cuts and colours...
Cuts
Bobs -
Bobs are a classic haircut that never truly go out of style. For A/W 22 we will see bobs becoming thicker and blunter in appearance, styled super sleek and smooth to enhance hair shine and paired with a full and eyebrow skimming full fringe to give the look a further sleek finish.
We will also see the return of a-line, elongated bobs that come back on trend time and time again. These should gradually get longer towards the front, where they will also appear fuller and sharper in appearance. A great thing about this haircut is that due to it having an angle, it works for all face shapes and it’s a particularly great choice for those with rounder face shapes who are looking for a haircut that gives the illusion of a lengthened face.
Mullets - For those clients wanting to give off cool girl vibes, the mullet is one of the hottest haircut trends out there right now and this will continue into autumn/winter. Worn shorter at the top and longer at the ends, this hairstyle looks best when paired with little styling and simply by using some styling products to manipulate the hair shape and give it that roughed up, messy texture. To give this cut a more contemporary finish, pairing it with a short, almost micro fringe, is a must, giving the style added edge and quirkiness.
Colours
Tweed blonde - One of the must-have hair colour trends for A/W 22, tweed blonde replaces the icy blonde and golden blonde hues that we have previously seen become popular over the autumn/winter months. This blonde sees multiple shades being placed within the hair to give it a multidimensional, natural feel, as well as high shine. Tones include both warm, golden blonde tones and cooler, ashier tones to create the perfect neutral, blonde blend.
Shiny coppers - Shiny, luxurious
coppers are one of the biggest colours for A/W 22. The perfect tone for
the season, think bright copper meets brunette. This shade is softer and more subtle than the bright copper orange/red hair trend and has an almost brunette coating to it but it still looks fiery! This hair colour is so beautiful and instantly adds a glow to your complexion. It's best when the hair looks as healthy as possible with extreme shine, therefore recommending your clients have regular treatments in the salon and use colour saving shampoos at home is a must to keep their colour looking vibrant.
Oil slick petrol hues - For those looking for something brighter and bolder for the season, oil slick, petrol
inspired hues including dark amethyst purples, navy blues and forest greens will be popular colour choices for the new season. These colours look great when paired with a brunette base and give your hair optimum shine. They also look beautiful when combed together to create a more mesmerising finish.
