Communication is key

Communication is critical to the success of any business and in a salon environment it is essential that it is open, honest and free-flowing. Businesses that succeed have a clear vision and one that every single member of the team not only understands but buys into - sharing the passion and belief that by working together for one goal - not only will the business benefit, but also the individuals working within it.

Creating an environment where everyone can be heard and more importantly listened too is not always easy as it is often the bigger personalities that shout loudest whilst the more timid team members can be overlooked. This is where good management is essential to ensure all voices are heard, no ideas or suggestions are dismissed out of turn and an ambience is created that instils enough confidence for all to share candidly. We all respond differently to the communication being received and what one team member can interpret as positive, another can see in an entirely different light, so creating an awareness of the importance of personal impact and influence is a good starting point.

Team meetings are a great forum for open conversation but again need steering to ensure that the discussion does not stray into territory where an individual can feel isolated; a clear agenda that is adhered too will help alleviate any uncertainty.
