Colour code: the new way to contour from aveda
Balayage, Strobing, Contouring; when it comes to colour, there’s endless techniques to suit every client. Using colour to play with shade and light to enhance individual features is something colourists are working with more and more in salon. We caught up with Aveda Global Artistic Director, Ian Michael Black, the founder of Aveda’s brand new EcliptingTM technique, for his top tips on how to enhance your clients best features. “With the EcliptingTM hair colour service, we’re using hair colour to create subtle shading placed under a fringe, and at times around the face to gently contour the guest’s natural and distinct beauty,” Ian says. “The result is customised hair colour that serves a purpose of emphasising and celebrating the guest’s individual beauty.”
Eyes ‘To bring out the eyes as a focal point on someone who has a fringe for example, I create the darkest colour shades on the under layers of the fringe. This helps make the line look stronger just above the eyes, which in turn brings out the eyes.’ Cheekbones ‘To accentuate the cheekbones I would extend the colour with my sectioning so the darker shades sit down near the top of the cheekbone thus igniting a fierce look.’ Round Face ‘To make a round face look narrower I would extend colour down through the hairline section to help slim the overall facial features.’ Wide Set Eyes ‘If you wanted to make wide eyes look closer together then colour should be extended down the sides, so darker shades sit at eye level.’
