Award-winning hairdressers Gary Hooker and Michael Young wowed Cardiff when they presented live as part of the Matrix Revolution Tour. The high frequency hair was given a truly graphic edge. Using references of interference and radio waves as a starting point, the duo drew upon influences of white noise to convey colour and styling contradictions. Where geometric shapes were cut, soft beautiful sections brought beauty and wearability. Experiments with colour saw pastel peach opposed with white panels. But always staying true to their personal style principles of shiny, gorgeous hair.
They also offered these tips with the Welsh hairdressers:
1 These looks are trend driven and demonstrate the extreme. Look at the elements you can incorporate when working with clients back in the salon and draw upon the techniques that have been shown to filter down the ideas.
2 During the consultation, try not to overwhelm your client with too much information - instil confidence that the style you are working towards will make them look and feel amazing. Get their buy-in and spare them the technical terms.
3 This is never more relevant than when you're working with a technique such as undercutting which could be misunderstood. Use language that is simple.
4 Identify your hero products and don't be afraid to product cocktail - we love using oils to soften clays and putty. .
