What makes an image of the year?

Choosing my top ten images of 2011 for this week's Review of the Year wasn't an easy task. Hundreds of images come into the HJ office - and most of them make it onto the pages of the magazine. What makes a great image is a personal thing - what I might like another person won't.
The cover of our Christmas issue is one of my favourite images - the colour stencilling adds a new dimension to the eveyday bob, while teh styling is kept simple. The model glancing over her shoulder adds to the mystique and innocence of the wole look. Best of all it's created by Ryan Harris from Angels in Aberdeen, a youngster who is making his mark on the hairdressing industry.
