Low-key but easy enough to dress up with texture, movement and shine, the long, layered look is the ideal summer style. With stars including the always on-trend Olivia Palermo and style crush Liv Tyler opting for the look, it's no surprise this simple style is becoming a summer staple.

Katie is wearing a long cut with layers just below the jawline to give the hair movement. Soft waves are created by using a large barrel tong. Random sections are taken at the bottom of the hair, keeping the top smooth, then brushed and teased in to position using a volume-boosting hairspray.

Liv Tyler
Liv Tyler looks great here with a centre-parted, ultra-glossy style that is slightly lighter than her normal colour. In gorgeous condition, this look is very simple and easily achieved by blow-drying with a large round bristle brush and using texture-enhancing products through the ends. A glam but hip look, that bursts with shine.

Summer always brings longer lengths teamed with loose waves, and Karen's style is bang on the 70s vibe that is everywhere this season. Extremely versatile, the feminine styling complements her gorgeous red hue and is spot on for the warmer months. Although I love her longer lengths, I would take the cut up to the collar bone and incorporate a balayage colour technique a few shades lighter through the ends. This would lift her layers and add movement, taking the look up another level in the style stakes.

Olivia Palermo
The long bob was a big trend in 2010 and is still one of the most popular cuts for the new season. However, as Olivia demonstrates, this Summer's version is slightly waved and worn just above the shoulder. It is also softer and more textured. This cut is very versatile as it works on straight or curly hair, and is perfect for creating a gorgeous, natural look, ideal for the summer months.
