More than 400 hairdressers descended on the impressive Great Connaught Rooms in central London for an afternoon of colour, creativity and client-friendly hair.

The two-hour show started with a powerful film about the importance of colour in the modern world, from Amazonian creatures to the wonders of Mother Nature.

Stephanie Kocielski and the Paul Mitchell team worked on a brunette, a redhead and a blonde bringing each hue to life.

"Every woman likes chocolate and will love this black chocolate colour," she said of a glass-like brunette. "Gentlemen may prefer blondes but it's brunettes they marry," she quipped.

Stephanie showcased stunning reds, from fiery to rustic. "These reds turn heads, why create anything else?" she said.

Stephanie and international platform artist and educator Heath Kannoi talked about  "old money, new money and no-money clients", with tips and techniques to keep them coming back into the salon for a colour service.

Stunning films featured legendary stars from Monroe to Bardot, and while one in 20 Europeans are born blonde, they are a worldwide obsession and the colour of choice for more than 70% of clients.

"We need to separate ourselves from colour in drug stores, so we need to offer not just great colour but something different, whether that is techniques, experience or creating a buzz," said Stephanie.

Celebrating the latest product launch, Awapuhi Wild Ginger, gorgeous models with cascading curls graced the stage and performed an energetic dance routine, before being styled with the new products.

"Fashion dictates hair: everyone wants a different look, they want an identity and they want their hair to come to life," she said, as models walked the runway with glossy waves and feminine shapes.

The finale saw Stephanie work on an avant-garde model wearing a paper dress, shoes and eyelashes while Lady Gaga's Born this Way blasted out. Hair was sprayed, pinned and backcombed into shape, finished with a spritz of red and white paint. It was a stunning end to a spectacular Sunday afternoon.
