After a stand-out year of outreach in 2017, this year is already shaping up to be a significant year for Shaping Futures, the charity created by Schwarzkopf Professional UK. For this year, the charity’s work is set to be bigger and better, with the development of existing projects and plans to expand the volunteer network to unexplored regions.
Set up in 2008, the charity is now active around the world, giving something back to the hairdressing industry. Though it started small, it’s ambitions were always global and today, from humble beginnings, Shaping Futures has held over 100 training sessions in 30 countries, hosting 1932 students.
Shobha Pillapa became involved with Shaping Futures in 2012 when volunteers headed to SOS children’s village in Bangalore. After tragically losing her husband in a motorbike accident, Shobha found herself in an untenable situation where she needed to support herself and her children. After being welcomed onto the six-week hairdressing training programme with Shaping Futures, Shobha was able to get a job and now owns her very own salon and runs a small team. Not only has she now built a stable life for herself and her family, she is able to provide jobs for others. This example shows in very real terms the impact of Shaping Futures.
This year, Schwarzkopf Professional UK are on the hunt for enthusiastic volunteers to travel to Vietnam, the Philippines or India in autumn 2018 and spring 2019.
