The charity Haircuts4Homeless has recently teamed up with hairstylist Gina Conway at Tower Hamlets London for Women Refuge, a programme that aids women and families who have experienced domestic abuse.
Haircuts4Homeless is a registered charity set up by hairdresser Stewart Roberts. Inspired by the actions of hairdressers in various parts of the world cutting hair for the homeless, Stewart set out not only to do this himself, but to encourage a community of skilled hairdresser volunteers who would in their own spare time, free of charge, style and cut the hair of homeless people living on the streets.
Homeless people have many challenges to face, one of them often being low self-esteem. A haircut can have a bigger effect on a persons livelihood then most would imagine, giving them a real boost in confidence and self-love.
This charity event was Haircuts4homeless 58th project and the 24 November marks the charities 5th anniversary. Gina Conway says: “I was glad that I could help by giving the gift of beauty. I saw so many big smiles on their faces and we laughed a lot! Some of the girls were really thrilled to feel like they were the most important person in the world even if only for a few hours.” Stewart, founder of Haircuts4Homeless says: “This is something that is really personal to me and I feel really privileged to be part of it. Gina and her team were a perfect fit as her wonderful central London salons are built on customer delight and making people’s day. The place was full of laughter and tears of joy."
