Marcello moccia abseiled down wakefield cathedral for charity

Salon owner Marcello Moccia overcame his fears and abseiled the highest spire in Yorkshire to raise money for Wakefield Hospice.
Marcello, owner of Room 97 Creative salons in Trinity Walk, Wakefield and The Springs in Leeds, undertook the challenge to abseil Wakefield Cathedral, which has the highest spire in the county, standing at more than 247ft.
Marcello joined other abseilers as part of the challenge and personally raised more than £1,000 for the local charity, which he has strongly supported for many years. Wakefield Hospice provides management and care for people who have advanced active, progressive and life-threatening illnesses.

Marcello is no stranger to challenges – he is a keen sailor and has won North Western Hairdresser of the Year four times – but this was his biggest challenge as he’s not a fan of heights.
“Wakefield Hospice is an important charity we have supported for many years, but this is by far the scariest thing I have done. I see Wakefield Cathedral every day and have never really thought about how high the spire was, but when I looked down I soon realised! Abseiling down the side seemed to take forever, and when I got back onto the ground, I was relieved but proud that I had managed to do it.”
