Spring is a great time to re-access everything that you want to revamp for the rest of the year. Whether that's Marie Kondo-ing your wardrobe or spring cleaning your hair. Many factors can contribute to dull lacklustre hair including diet, over-styling and environmental factors. If your hair or your client's hair is in need of some desperate attention these are the best steps to detox hair.
Here’s Dr Sharon Wong's tips on how to detox your hair:
1 Hair health starts with the scalp and just like skin, it needs to be exfoliated of dirt, pollutants and product build up. Massage a scalp scrub into the scalp once a week to keep it, clean and invigorated.
2 Use finger pads to massage the scalp rather than nails to prevent scratching and damage.
3 Invest in a moisturising shampoo and conditioner and make sure you gently lather. Try not to rub the hair as this causes breakage and damage.
4 Gently squeeze out excess water before applying conditioner then completely rinse. Again squeeze out excessive water then pat hair with a towel. Try not to rub hair as this can damage the hair cuticle.
5 Apply a mask onto the hair at least one a week. This will inject a must-needed moisture boost.
6 Try to leave hair to air dry and lay off the heated styling tools as much as you can. Curls is a big look right now, so ditch the straighteners and embrace your natural texture.
7 If you can’t leave the heated tools alone, always use a thermal protection spray. As well as protecting the hair, many also contain styling ingredients that will add bounce and shine.
