Bruno Marc, creative director of British Hairdressing Awards Artistic Team of the Year 2. Here are six of his all-time favourite creations.

Air hostess hat

“This was one of those shots that just happened. We were shooting what turned out to be my winning Southern Collection for the British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional in 2007. She had hair down to her waist and was the last model of the day. I mustered all the energy I had to finish with this look. Splitting the hair into two, I wrapped one hair around one side and the other hair around the other side to create an air hostess hat. Bernard Connolly styled her, and we took the shot and that was it. She was in the studio for no more than 2 hours and it’s still one of my favourite images.” [caption id="attachment_63606" align="alignnone" width="700"] Air hostess hat[/caption]

Timeless sophistication

“I really loved this collection and even now I wouldn’t change anything about it. She had long hair and was a very popular model at the time so we needed to do something different. We created this beautiful sophisticated look where I put the hair up at the front. A piece popped out and fell out over her nose and I thought it looked beautiful so we kept it and shot it like this and it looks stunning.”

A head of curls

“This red-haired model had really long hair past her shoulders. We set the hair on red perm rods and we combed and brushed it all out to create this beautiful head of curls. We had an idea of shooting her straight on with her eyes just poking through, but it wasn’t working. Photographer Andrew O’Toole suggested having her on the side and putting her head back. As soon as we took the shot, I thought – wow! A 10/10 shot

“This is one of my favourites as I love strong shapes and it is timeless. It was a real close short back and sides. Elegant beauty

“This was one of the first shoots I did with this model and I think this whole image is so ironically beautiful. The way her hand emulates her hair on the top. Short and graphic

“My time managing the FAME Team is still one of my career highlights and this model, Masie, was one I used during a session with the team and Bruce Masefield. She had a short choppy haircut and I added a couple of hair waifs in the side and at the front over her right eye. I used straightening irons to create an opening powerful look. This is such a strong graphic image.”

Sexy long hair

“This model was a make-up artist and had never modelled or done photographic work before. Her hair was naturally long to her waist and I added a few pieces at the back and side. She kept her arms down and all of the hair that was tucked in at the back was blown forward while her natural hair was kept under her arms so it all connected. Jewel on the crown

“Launching my very own product line TAOH (The Art of Hair) has been an exciting time in my life. The collections I’m doing for the brand are all about the effect the product has on the hair – a very different brief to that of the British Hairdressing Awards.
