Five minutes with bruno marc giamattei Five Minutes with Bruno Marc Giamattei Bruno Marc Giamattei was recently named president of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. Here, we find out more about the man behind the title. Where did you train? Alan International What was your first job like? It was good grounding for a life in the hairdressing industry. I still remember like it was yesterday. If you love your first job and are respected and nurtured while you're there, it has a huge positive impact on how it frames your career. When did you open your first salon? My dad opened his first salon 50 years ago and, at age 19 I opened my first Marc Antoni shop in Henley. When did you join the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and why did you decide to? I joined the Fellowship 15 years ago. I was introduced to the organisation by Stephen Messais, having been a member of his artistic team. I was introduced to Ann Herman and since that day I’ve been a huge advocate. It has provided me and my team with opportunities that many would dream of. What are you most looking forward to in your new role? The Fellowship has given me so much over the years, so I’m really looking forward to giving back. I want everyone to have the same experience that I did. I've been extremely privileged over the years to have met some amazing people through the Fellowship and I’m looking forward to meeting and working more. I’m extremely passionate about nurturing young talent and I’m confident that the Fellowship is a huge opportunity for the young within the industry. Are you planning to make any changes that you can tell us about? I would like to maintain the growth in our memberships and exceed the 1,000 membership to keep the Fellowship for British Hairdressing at the top of the game. We have an amazing team working to ensure our events and courses are motivational and accessible to all of those that attend. It is my wish that every hairdresser is given the opportunity to experience just what the Fellowship can bring to them and their career. You’re known for your honesty – how do you think this will benefit the Fellowship? Honesty is so important in this industry, but so is listening and learning. The Fellowship relies on the team that run it, but it's also about all of our members. Listening to those members and acting on their wishes will ensure that the Fellowship goes from strength to strength. What advice would you give to any salons that are not already part of the Fellowship, but are thinking of joining? If you are wanting to inspire your team and motivate them, or increase knowledge and skills across the board, then the Fellowship is vital. Stepping out of the salon and meeting people outside your own network is a powerful tool. In life, and especially this industry, we have to make time to develop and nurture our skills and I strongly believe the Fellowship is paramount in this. galleryWidgetDec14
