Meet the winners of the HJ, Denman and NHF competitions who battled it out in front of industry judges to be crowned at this year’s Salon International and hear what winning meant to them. HJ’s Afro Stylist of the Year Aycan Kemal “It’s a fantastic feeling to be a winner. My inspiration was my previous BHA Afro finalist collection. It’s an Afro Mohawk with braids.” HJ’s Men’s Afro Barber of the Year, sponsored by Andis Emmett Williams “My friend told me to enter and I'm so glad I did now!" HJ’s Extensions Specialist of the Year Classic Look, sponsored by Remi Cachet Andrew Jones “I feel like I’m about to cry. I wanted to offer a combination of both fashion and creative, so my look is a copper that goes into a peachy blonde ombré.” HJ’s Extensions Specialist of the Year Creative Look, sponsored by Remi Cachet Sarah Wilkins “It was so unexpected but it’s amazing to win. I tried to be as creative as possible with the flower bun and fruit salad shades.” HJ’s Barber of the Year, sponsored by Andis Harry Rushton “This is my third year of entering and now I’ve won it! I’ve taken feedback over the three years and it has made it all worth it.” HJ’s Bridal Hairdresser of the Year Alex Cook “It’s my second time winning and I’m over the moon. This represents my style, which is natural and soft.” Denman Stage Star Amy Senior “It was incredibly overwhelming and hasn’t sunk in yet! I created a low-sleek pony held together with a 5-strand infinity braid.” HJ’s Rising Star of the Year, sponsored by VTCT Rachel Turner “It’s amazing to win. I was nervous coming into the competition but my model is my best friend so that helped.
