Nhf/nbf announces winners of the first hair and beauty community awards

The first Hair and Beauty Community Awards by the National Hairdressers Federation and National Beauty Federation (NHF/NBF) was held at the House of Parliament to celebrate the incredible initiatives hair salons, barbershops and beauty salons undertake to support their local communities. A number of MPs attended the Hair and Beauty Community Awards reception to show their appreciation of the professional hair and beauty industry within the UK, including Kelly Tolhurst (Minister for Small Business), Paul Uppal (Small Business Commissioner) and MP Mark Pawsey. Mark told the audience during the awards reception: "Small businesses are the backbone of our economy." NHF/NBF president Agnes Leonard said: "I would like to say a huge congratulations to the winners of our Community Awards. We were blown away by the number of inspirational entries we received which highlighted to us just how much businesses in the hair and beauty industry do for their local communities and for national and local charities." There were four highly commended winners and one winner for each category. Community Impact Category: Winner: John Belfield International This salon supports mothers and children who are victims of domestic violence. The salon provides clothing, Christmas dinners, trips to the pantomime and farm visits. The salon's clients are fully involved in supporting this worthwhile charity. Highly commended: Spencer Lynch Hair & Beauty, Code Hair Consultants, Deborah Alfa and Beauty with a Conscience Fundraising Category:  Winner: The Head Gardener This salon raised a staggering £200,000 from bag packing, hair-a-thons, singing, dancing, cycling, running and organising a fundraising event 'Stylish of the North', – all in aid of the Highland Hospice.
