Greek Street has been identified as the location for a new ‘House Of Sassoon’ concept of a combined salon, academy and studio space as well as the launch of an exclusive members club and dedicated ambassador programme.
The Greek Street space features an elegant Georgian façade and is the ideal setting for the House Of Sassoon concept due in part to its iconic past in the creative and fashion industries, previous tenants having included Central Saint Martin Fashion College and Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design. Soho is at the heart of London and is the go-to district for world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, bars and restaurants.
In one magnificent building, Sassoon is entering a new era. Arranged over five floors, the ground floor entrance leads into a spacious reception area featuring a dedicated retail space with a complete range of professional tools and educational materials.
The salon will be located at the front of the building on the ground floor and will be at the centre of everything that happens. Minimalist design, clean lines and a contemporary styling reflects the core philosophy of Sassoon, it is a vibrant and energetic space with a simple colour palette. The salon is connected directly to a state-of-the-art multimedia theatre space with seating for 120 audience, capable of hosting hair and fashion shows in a catwalk or theatre style. The space is designed for up to 20 fully qualified professionals and up to 20 Diploma students in an open plan environment.
The ground floor is also the home for a staff training programme where students who complete the programme will go on to work in the global Sassoon salon locations.
The building has four further white airy floors, which will be utilised in innovative ways. On the beginners Diploma course for example, students will work their way down the building as the course progresses and will ultimately spend their final eight weeks on the ground floor alongside fully trained Sassoon professionals in the “salon ready’ phase of their training.
The first floor will house two classrooms some of which open out onto a private decking space. One will be occupied by beginner Diploma students and one will be exclusively set aside for Sassoon members to work on a rental/freelance basis.
The second and third floors will house two further purpose-built classrooms, one dedicated to beginner Diploma students and one for short-term advanced education students.
The fourth floor will be utilised as an open plan office space for Academy and Salon administration, consisting of Academy Principle, Salon Director, Creative Director, and the Administration team, where students can discuss their current and future educational needs with the team.
London has always been a fashion capital and Sassoon has a heritage and an affinity with the city that stretches back to the original Bond Street Salon, which opened in 1954. Greek Street has been specifically selected to provide guests with something more than just a premium learning experience. Embracing the Sassoon philosophy, the new House Of Sassoon space redefines the world of training with an extensive range of educational opportunities designed and developed to meet a variety of experience levels and learning needs to guide students in their search for technical and creative excellence.
“The House of Sassoon allows us the opportunity to create a community for Sassoon enthusiasts. With a shared education/workspace available to all; from beginner students to seasoned professionals," says Debbie Webster, Global Sassoon CEO. “We believe strongly in the brand ethos and are investing over £10m in this exciting new venture. Opening is planned for late spring/summer 2023 in London and Beverly Hills, CA simultaneously. We are excited for the future of the brand and look forward to sharing it with you."
“World renowned in leading the way in hair innovation that goes back some 65+ years, our new space will be a true reflection of the brand today and into the future,” says Mark Hayes, Sassoon International Creative Director. “It will be our new home for many years to come and we look forward to welcoming clients, students, models and guests to share in the excitement of our new journey and the next chapter of the Sassoon story.”
