Spring marks the start of high season for weddings and with searches for ‘bridal updo hairstyles’ up by 60% in the last seven days, brides-to-be are on the lookout for some inspiration. Laura Elliott, Head of Education at Neal & Wolf has shared her guide on the perfect bridal hairstyles for your clients.
Laura comments: “Your wedding day is a special occasion that you will look back on for many years to come, and there are many things to consider. Client's will want a hairstyle that flatters all aspects of their overall look, so updo’s are perfect to avoid covering the beautiful dress.”
Low bun with wispy strands
The relaxed, loose bridal updo is one wedding hairstyle that will always look flawless, it’s carefree and a little messy which makes for the perfect look as the day goes on and more tendrils start to drop out. The great thing about this updo is the versatility – there’s a version that’s bound to work for every bride depending on hair texture and bridal style.
“The messy bun is an effortless updo that looks perfectly imperfect,” says Laura. “For those wanting to add extra volume and texture, I’d recommend an updo with loose braids as this will create dimension and prevent the hairstyle looking flat – long wispy strands are also a great way to frame the face. For a finishing touch you can add accessories like pearls or flowers which make for a romantic aesthetic. Finish off with a texture and finishing spray for long lasting hold and volume.”
Glam waves
Glam bouncy waves work well with a dramatic long wedding dress to match the volume of the look.
“Smooth and shiny waves are a classic style that provide long lasting hold meaning client’s don’t have to worry about touching up their hair throughout the day, and is great for those with finer hair for enhancing volume and texture,” Laura tells us. “To modernise this classic style, try a loose textured wave instead of a tight curl. To intensify the shine, I would suggest trying Neal & Wolf’s Fix Hold & Shine Spray to create all-day hold with radiant shine.”
The beehive
The resurgence of the 1960’s hairstyle has made its way back but with a chic modern twist as more brides are asking for this voluminous look to take them down the aisle. This look is great for brides looking to add more volume and is a great resting place for beautiful accessories.
“We’ve noticed a lot more brides are asking for the modernised beehive as it can be worn in so many different ways from the half up, half down beehive to a low ponytail beehive. With this look volume and texture is key. A volumising mousse will create the best base for the beehive updo and using elastic bands rather than grips to secure the look will add volume for those with fine hair.”
